Juicing is the extraction of the natural juices held within fruits and vegetables which hold most of the vitamins and minerals your body needs. To get these out, you have to go through the difficult task of juicing each and every part… which is why we do it for you!

You may have heard about juicers, but have you ever seen one? Juicers have changed a lot over the past 20 years, going from small hand-held units that required a lot of manual labor (think of a citrus fruit juicer) to the bigger style machines as big as a car!

There are currently two types of juicers available: a centrifugal juicer and a masticating juicer. Both machines have the same premise: an apple goes in and apple juice comes out of one part of the juicer, and the rest of the apple (skin, stalk, pips, and dry apple pulp) comes out of the other part. You have now separated the juice from the apple and are ready to go, but what’s the difference?

A centrifugal juicer is a machine with a spinning blade inside. When you insert your fruit and vegetables, they are broken up and the juice is thrown to the outside through the spinning motion and then collected. The pulp that cannot pass through the holes is collected elsewhere to be disposed of.

A masticating juicer (also known as a “cold-press”) uses a slower technique that squeezes the fruits and vegetables through tiny holes until you have separated the juice and the pulp. Usually due to the slow speed of the machine, all of the items you want to juice will need to be cut small enough to fit inside..

Many people get blenders and juicers mixed up, and although they are usually found in the same shop section, they are very different. If you take the proverbial apple again from above and add it to the blender and turn it on, you will get a thicker drink that will still have all the contents of the apple—nothing has been taken away. Whilst this might sound easier, it is more difficult to drink and will need to have liquid added to it to turn it into a beverage. A “Nutribullet” is a new style of blender (not a juicer), as you add all the ingredients and it mixes them.
